4 Tips To Boost Your Confidence

confidence

In almost anything you do you’re going to need self-confidence. The confidence may be needed to give a presentation to a room filled with professionals, a meeting with your manager or going to a networking event.

Some individuals are highly confident whereas others struggle in that field. Every day we make the choice about whether or not to be confident by the way we present ourselves, the way we speak and how we react under pressure.

Here are four tips to take your confidence to the next level:

Pep Talks

There are times when negative thoughts can take over your mind but it’s important to stop them and remember the importance of being the biggest supporter of yourself and your endeavours. It’s easy to focus on the negative but go that extra mile and remember to list your strengths every time you think about one of your weaknesses. Remind yourself that everybody including you is human and we all make mistakes.

Give yourself a quick confidence boost by reading a list of your greatest qualities or calling someone close to you. Remember a time when you did something with great success and carry that feeling into your next presentation, meeting or networking event.

Remember to stay positive, because positivity goes a long way. If you find yourself surrounded by negativity constantly then maybe it’s time to evaluate the people around you.

Body Language

Your body language can say more than the words that come out of your mouth. Twiddling with your fingers, speaking too quietly and slouching doesn’t convey confidence.

In the event that nerves get the best of you, maintain eye contact, stand with your feet apart – shoulder width, and stand tall. Also, don’t forget to smile. Smiling can actually make you feel better and for example, it can be a great icebreaker for a networking event as it makes you look more approachable.

Ask Questions

Asking questions is a great way to get out of your head and focus on the present moment. It can be quite hard to carry your side of the conversation when you are feeling overwhelmed but you can overcome these feelings. Focus on the conversation instead of overthinking and once the moment is right, ask a question.

Asking questions can be applied to any situation, such as giving a presentation, having a meeting or networking. It shows that you’re interested and engaged. It definitely is an effective method to establish rapport and ease those nerves.

Build On Your Strengths

Another way to boost your confidence is to focus on what you do well – your strengths. Knowing your strengths can also improve your mood and put you at ease. However don’t ignore your weaknesses, your weaknesses can be flipped into strengths. Work on your weaknesses, turn them into strengths and add them to your confidence list.
